PAX South

PAX South took forever to arrive but the weekend was super jam packed and went by too quickly!! I was looking forward to road tripping with Ginger and my dude! Actually, my husband had never been to San Antonio so I was excited for him to see The Alamo and Riverwalk. I booked a hotel near The Alamo so every morning we would walk past the monument.

The floor show was awesome! We had friends who worked on some games so it was awesome to see their booths! We also met Randy Pitchford (CEO of Gearbox)! We are huge Borderlands fans and Gearbox people were super awesome to talk to. I also got to finally meet up with Cat, she is also from Texas. Short gamers unite!!!!

I also took some piccies of some badass Borderlands cosplay and if you follow me on Instagram I took a few pictures of some other booths, including Nintendo’s! Monster Hunter and Majora’s Mask 3DS.San Antonio was awesome, the first PAX South was awesome and I am looking forward to the next PAX.

NY part 2

While we were in NYC we had to go visit the Nintendo Store! I heard at one time it was a Pokemon Center. Boy oh boy the store is pretty! The store was more focused on Mario Kart 8, Mario plushies and Pokemon. I just wished they had more items of Zelda or Animal Crossing items! We got lots of Street passes on this trip – not as many as Disney World but a good amount. Most of them from France – random!

We also went to an art exhibit that showcased pieces created from lego pieces! At the end of the exhibit they ask you to write your name on some legos and the artist will create a new piece from the signed bricks!

Back in 2004 or so, my middle sister had many foreign exchange friends in high school. One of the friends wasn’t an exchange student but moved from Korea to our little town in Texas. He quickly became family and was my sister’s best friend through out their high school years. We always called each other family, he refers my mom as his ‘mexican mom’ and we three girls as his sisters. He lives in NYC so we met up! He was so nice, he bought me cupcakes since it was my bday and paid for starbucks. It was the first time my husband got to meet my little brother. He has grown to become a man! Kinda weird to see him so grown-up.

Other things to note: FOOD! We ate at Totto Ramen! So yummy, Houston is finally getting a ramen scene in the city. We also had some Scottish food, NY Pizza, and on the last day an awesome deli! Here are some random pics: Scottish Burger, yummy ramen and photo of me with Bill Heck (in CABARET).

Amazing trip – so grateful to my boss, husband and NEW YORK!!

New York New York

One random fact about me is when I was 14 (1999) I started to really love an obscure actor – Alan Cumming. Fast forward to 2014 – he announced he would return to the stage in his iconic role in CABARET at Studio 54. I made it my goal to somehow go for my birthday. My boss knew of my quest and surprised me with front row tickets! So that was it – there was nothing stopping me. 14 year old Mija would have never believed that one day she would see her favorite show, with her favorite actor! He was truly AMAZING! Our seats were so close, he was very distracting to be standing next to our table during the show and really quite sexy in this role! We were lucky enough to get pics of Alan and autographs!

Neil Patrick Harris is starring as Hedwig on Broadway, another show I adore! So I bought the cheapest tickets I could find and dragged my husband to another musical. ALTHOUGH this show was something he would like! He adores NPH and already liked the music to the show. Jody was so sweet. During the performance he would laugh and gasp, stand up to see where Hedwig would go into the audience. After the show my husband was really impressed with NPH and the show in general. So glad I decided to get those tickets last minute. Neil came out for autographs but the line was so packed so no autographs.

Since this was our first time in NYC, we did the touristy things like Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Chrysler Building and Central Park. One thing I have to really say about NYC is the transportation of the city is AMAZING! You can get anywhere in the city by foot or subway! LOTS of walking, we never pick relaxing vacations! We were kinda jealous, in Texas the state is so large you HAVE to drive everywhere – just in Houston alone it take anywhere from 20-45 minutes to get to work!

While we were there we stayed at POD 39 Hotel. If you ever need a cheap and trendy place to stay go there! Only $160 a night right in the middle of the city! Every other place in NY was $300 a night and looked like it was furnished by grannies! It is super tiny, like dorm room tiny but for the full pod you do get your own bathroom. If you’re single or with friends they do have bunk bed option with a shared bathroom down the hall like hostels. Those rooms range from $120-$140!

I will have to make another post – this photo post is getting too large!

Thanks Boston

We came back from our weekend in Boston. It was amazing, but being from Texas we kept hearing “why don’t you have a drawl” ^^; Funny how people think folks from Texas sound like cowboys. Boston is a city that has so much history, the small side roads have cobble stone, the doors and street lights still look vintage. I live in Houston – it is an urban sky scraper, concrete city with horrible public transportation. Boston had amazing subway and bus systems. It was really an amazing city to explore!

Our main reason for going was to see Yui get married!!! Yui has been my friend I met online forever ago when I first started college – I think we met online in 2005? We’ve met in person only 3 times total making Boston the 4th time we’ve been able to actually talk face to face. She is one of those friends you can not talk to for months and months and somehow it feels natural to meet up again and just feel awesome!

Her wedding was held at a wild life reserve – AMAZING!!! I really love outdoor weddings in cities that have great weather. Her dress was so pretty and unique and she wore this elegant red bird cage veil. I got alittle emotional seeing Yui and Luke tie the knot…I am really happy for them and so honored I could be a part of their happy day!

OK so we can’t talk about Boston without talking about CHEERS!! We went to the Cheers bar than influenced the show I grew up with. Food was normal bar food but seriously you can go to Boston without eating and drinking at this place. Very touristy but just so cool. We went to Beacon Street which had an amazing mixture of old and new. We also found the memorial square they have for the victims of the Boston bombings.

We really loved the city and will definitely come back!!!
