Mind Speaks press!

Life has been a tad busy, mainly freelancing for my friend’s restaurant, my sister is engaged so I am working on her invites, work and now my kid has started day care. She is in the early toddler preschool and it has only been 5 months and already she picked up lots of words, started to “use” the toilet and started to do art projects! It’s adorable but also emotional because she is totally a kid now, no longer a baby!!! More about that later, I wanted to let you guys know our Usagi event has been featured on some cool blogs!

Megan from A Geeky Gal posted about our event on her post over here. She also won and posted an unbagging video about our Usagi bag over here!! Check out her new youtube channel!!!

Hannah also posted an interview with me last week on Ruby Wings over here! Her blog is really cool, she has done so many interesting interviews with other geek ladies!

The lovely Spokhette over at Nerdette at Large over here~!! I’ve been a follower of her blog and instagram for a few years now so I was really excited to answer her interview.

Super awesome bloggers, I am really honored that people liked the Usagi event we threw!!!!! Maybe we can do another event when things calm down a bit. I hope you guys had a wonder holiday and new year. I need to work on my year in review post soon.

Usagi Birthday Bash

My sisters and I started Mind-Speaks.com back in 2010, we had no idea what we wanted to do. We just knew we liked crafts; we liked sharing crafts with each other and hoped the blog would be a nice way to communicate while we were living in different cities.?? Here we are in 2018, we all live in Houston and have only done a few events together. We wanted to meet new people, make new friends and share the love of fandoms and crafts with local people. What better way than to host a meet up, give away some prizes and make new friends? Better yet, throw a birthday bash for one of our first fandoms growing up: Usagi aka Sailor Moon!

Sailor Moon means a lot to my sisters and I. When we were young, this cartoon with 5 amazingly strong scouts with different personalities was so eye opening. Approximately 20 years later we are still watching the show, still collecting memorabilia and still wishing we could transform into senshi! I’m sure every magical kid from the 90’s would practice their hand movements screaming “Make-up!”

About the birthday bash: it will be hosted at Viet Nom Noms in Bellaire/Houston, Texas this Saturday at 4pm. This restaurant serves quick service bahn mi, vermicelli and rice bowls. They also have vegan options! They just started to serve boba milk teas as well!!

What will we do there? When you arrive, we have a sign in sheet. Sign up to our newsletter and you’ll be automatically entered into some raffles. We will also have some locket cookies, cork keychain craft set up, bingo and coloring sheets for everyone!

10 guests will have a chance to grab a goodie bag. Inside the bag we have:

-Mind-Speaks Button
-2 Sailor Moon Post Cards
-2 Sailor Moon Buttons
-Sailor Scout charm
-2 Sticker Sheets
-Sailor Scout Bow Clip
-Sailor Scout Bow necklace
-Scout temporary tattoo

Didn’t get a bag? No worries, we will be raffling an extra bag after the event. So keep in touch via Instagram and Facebook for a chance to win a bag filled with goodies!
This meet up is to connect with other fans of cute things.

You can also follow the event along with us via our instagram!

Whhoooooot so nervous!

April is letter writing month and updates

A couple of posts ago I posted about the stationery sets I have been working on. It is now April, which is National Letter Writing Month! To celebrate, my sister Kimmy made this video to show the stationery sets in action. She is huge into fountain pens as well so it is mesmerizing to watch her write! FYI – my hand writing looks horrid compared to her easy flow script! I need her to start signing the thank you notes I send out with orders!!

Last year, I joined the International Geek Girl Pen Pals club, and sent off a Harry Potter and Dr. Who stationery I made for my partner. She was really sweet, she sent me back some Sailor Moon and nintendo stationery!!! We are instagram pals but we are both moms so letter writing kinda fizzled after awhile. I might try the club again, the group of girls are awesome and I am always on the look out for pen pals or other geeky friends!

So much in fact, I decided to host a birthday event for Usagi aka Sailor Moon at my friend’s restaurant in Houston – Viet Nom Noms (my hubby and I made his logo). The event will be June 30th for Usagi’s birthday. I put an event on facebook, shared it once among friends and on the Mind Speaks’ instagram and boom – over 400 people interested. I doubt that many will come but this event is just some Sailor Moon bingo, giveaways and just to meet other geeky magical friends. Wish me luck – I am getting nervous now. Wish me luck!

OH, our Etsy shop is having a sale for National Letter Writing Month! Use WRITEON as a coupon code! One of our best sellers was restocked after a large order! One buyer bought a handful of the dino sticker sheets! I wonder if they are for bday goodie bags, students or the buyer really loves dinosaurs? Either way, I so happy they liked the stickers! These macarons sheets are brand new to the shop! I am in the middle of making some new stickers as I am typing this!

Stationery and stickers

I finally started to do something I always wanted to do. Design stationery and stickers! I know, totally weird but when I was 14, my favorite hobby was playing with Paintshop Pro and designing greeting cards and I had large collection of Lisa Frank stickers. My dream job was a mixture of Hallmark and Lisa Frank. After 10+ years working in design for other people – I decided to work on stuff for myself.

I finally got my butt into gear and make some sets. It might seem silly to some people but these themed items have been extremely fun and I love how they look, its been really fun!

My stationery sets include the watercolor succulents, colorful hello and 2 fandom sets for Dr. Who and Harry Potter (slytherin).

Our sticker sets include watercolors of succulents (hand painted by Kimmy), dino origami and my newest set: gamer glam.

My sister Kimmy made a video showing the stickers up close.

I already have new sets coming in 2018. If you follow me or Mind Speaks on instagram you can see previews after Christmas.
